Two 14th century cradles

The cradle seen in the image here is from The Romance of Alexander (Bodleian ms 264) (c. 1338-44), folio 2 verso.

Another 14th century cradle can be found in the British Library Royal ms 6 E VI, folio 296 verso. Notice both are relatively basic box designs with spherical finials mounted on the corner posts, and both are mounted on laterally oriented solid construction wooden rockers.  That is not to suggest that all 14th century cradles conformed to these specifications, of course, but only to point out that these features existed in the 14th century.
